Poovar

Overview What to Do What to See How to Reach
  • POOVAR

    Aihole

Kerala is a mix of different types of topographies. There are beaches, lakes, backwaters, hill stations, forests etc within this tiny state. Poovar is one of the rare destinations where one gets to witness the congregation of lake, river and sea with land. Poovar is relatively unexplored due to its proximity to the world famous Kovalam beach. But, the ‘National Geographic Traveller’ praised Poovar as one of the must see places in India due to its beauty and serenity.

  • POOVAR

    • Take long walks on the beach. There is nothing more pleasing and rejuvenating than the sea breeze on your face and the feel of sand on your feet.

    • There are resorts in Poovar where you can stay in a floating cottage, pamper yourself on a massage or a spa day and talk to the friendly locals. Poovar is ideal for a laid back holiday rather than an adventure filled weekend. Aihole

    • Your dreams of chilling at a private beach can be fulfilled at Poovar. It is a quiet spot with very few residents and is away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Head on over there with your friends or family and enjoy the beach like it’s all yours!.

  • POOVAR

There are not many sightseeing spots in Poovar. The beach itself is calm, peaceful and serene with the sea on one side and backwaters on the other. The breathtakingly beautiful surroundings are ideal for rejuvenating yourself. The beach is usually not crowded and one must not expect water sports or other similar activities at Poovar.

There are other beaches which are situated close to the main Poovar beach. Kovalam, the world famous beach, is at a distance of 20 kilometres from Poovar and Shangumugham beach with the huge figurine of a mermaid is around 29 kilometres away. Napier Museum in Trivandrum, which is well known for the Sree Chithra Art Gallery housing paintings and works from different Asian countries and different art schools in India, is around 28 kilometres away from Poovar.

Neyyar River Estuary is also near Poovar. One can stay at a resort in the area and enjoy the picturesque beauty of the land.

The main mosque in Poovar is said to be erected by Malik Ibn Dinar, one of the earliest Muslim scholars in India and the Muslim settlement in this region is said to be the earliest in the country.

House boats operate in Poovar and tourists can take a cruise in them to enjoy some breathtakingly beautiful scenery.

    Aihole

If you are looking for some adventure or hustle, try visiting Kovalam beach. Come to Poovar to rewind and fall back into nature and its magic. It can actually work wonders and reduce your stress and anxiety levels.

  • POOVAR

Poovar is a solitary, cut-off area and hence has no airport, railway station or bus station. However, it is not tough to reach Poovar. The state capital Trivandrum is less than 35 kilometres away and so one can connect to Poovar through Trivandrum.

Poovar is very close to the Trivandrum International Airport at a distance of 30 kilometres away.

The nearest railway station is Neyyanttinkara Station about 10 kilometres away and Vizhinjam at about a distance of 14 kilometres from Poovar. However, not many trains connect to these stations and one may have to use the Trivandrum Central railway station which is 30 kilometres away from Poovar and then take a taxi from there.
